IV. The Shapiro effect of delay of phase of E.M. radiations near the sun.--[ Return home ]
Physical Review Letters, Volume 20, Number 22, (1968), pp.1265-1269
With the light speed:
, and as without the sun we have:
and:
with the sun, the delay is:
For y = 696,000 km , X1= 69.E(+9)m for Mercury and X2= 149.E(+9) m for the Earth, the phase delay is 112us, that is to say 224 us for a round trip.
This result is in agreement with the experiment of Shapiro where the maximum delay seems to be in the order of 170 us.
